I am very happy to announce a book that I have the honor of having an image in is now available for on-line for purchase. “play”‘ Is a Collection of Sixty-three Toy Camera Photographs Made by Thirty-six Photographers in Twelve Countries. All proceeds of this book benefit the Marine “Toys for Tots”.

You can see a preview of the book online (click here). For a limited time the whole book is available for viewing. Right now there are two versions of the book online, both are 7×7 inches in size: The Standard version with high quality acid free paper, cover, and end sheets: $42.95. The ProLine version, which has ungraded linen covers, upgraded end sheets, and Pearl photo paper: $70.95 These include the $5.00 per book that is going to Toys for Tots. CWiP makes no money on the sales of either book. The proof was gorgeous and these will be gorgeous, as well. A perfect gift that will arrive in time for the holidays.

This is my image that was juried in the book by Jody Shipka & Nic Nichols (pg 71-72). It was shot using a Kodak “Fun Saver Panoramic 35″ disposable camera, reloaded with Kodak Tri-X film.

Lenscratch “Dreams” Exhibition

Check out lenscratch today. Myself and several other truly great photographic artists are featured. Aline Smithson was tasked to jury a show for The Center for Fine Art Photography, entitled “Dreams” With over 3,000 entrants Aline found it quite difficult to cull it down to just 60 images for the show in Fort Collins, Colorado. So she is posting her top 100 images on her blog lenscratch.

This is my image “Manhattan” shot with a Kodak Fun Saver Panoramic 35 disposable camera reloaded with Kodak Tri-X film. I shot this image a short distance from my home in Eureka, Nevada in the Monitor Valley just east of Manhattan, Nevada.

Slide Slam at the Western Folklife Center

Come to the Western Folklife Center on Thursday September 8th from 5:30 – 7:30 for the opening of Erik Lauritzen’s photographic show “Stop the Car Dad”, and slide slam presentation by local area photographers. Myself and several other Northeastern Nevada photographers will have images showing our interpretations of roadside attractions.

Diffusion Magazine “Unconventional Photography”

I received the latest issue of Diffusion Magazine in the mail today. I was thrilled to find one of my images in the pages of this fine publication. I knew I was part of “Ortus”, thinking my art work would be displayed on the website “Plates to Pixels. But, what I didn’t realize is that I would be printed in the magazine as part of the “ORTUS Group Showcase Selections”. I am very pleased to be published within the pages of this magazine, having my work next to some very fine photographic artists.

“Plastic Fantastic II” Opening

Come join us Saturday June 11th from 5:00 pm until…? At LightBox Photographic in Astoria, Oregon. I will be attending the opening of “Plastic Fantastic II” a show of lo-fidelity photographs created on film and photographed using a plastic, pinhole, vintage, or home made cameras. Susan Burnstine juried the show for LightBox Photographic, so it should prove to be an amazing show! Also, at the same time LightBox Photographic will be featuring the work of 10LoFi, a group of lo-fidelity photographers from Scandinavia.

I’m driving 700 miles from Central Nevada to attend the opening, what’s your excuse?

Judith Winzeler Award for Excellence in the Humanities

I am very proud to be the artist that created the awards for the Nevada Humanities “Judith Winzeler Award for Excellence in the Humanities”. These awards were presented in Carson City, Nevada at the Governor’s Mansion March 31 by Jim Leach, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. My fine art black and white panoramic photographs, created with a Kodak “Fun Saver Panoramic 35″ disposable camera were awarded to Wally Cuchine of Eureka, NV and to Christine Kelly & Dan Earl of Sundance Books and Music.

Nevada State Parks and a Jackpot Grant

I am a proud recipient of a Nevada Arts Council’s Jackpot Grant. With the Jackpot Grant seed money we started a project of documenting every State Park and Wildlife Management Area in Nevada, this project will take years to complete photographing every park and WMA in every season. On our first trip last fall we traveled along Nevada’s eastern border. We stayed a couple of days at Cathedral Gorge State Park (along with other Nevada State Parks in the area), we had fabulous weather and hiked every trail in the park with camera in hand. Since purchasing a Canon 5D MkII I have found that Canon’s zoom lenses are not that great. I have sold them and have been collecting prime lenses to replace the zooms. For the shots of Cathedral Gorge State Park I used a Canon 35mm f=1.4L and a Canon 100mm f=2.8L macro lenses. Both of these lenses have outstanding resolution, corner to corner sharpness, and unlike the zooms lenses have absolutely no chromatic aberrations.

Then, just before the New Year we drove south from our home in Eureka, Nevada to Valley of Fire State Park about an hour east of Las Vegas. We camped three nights at Valley of Fire State Park. We didn’t run out of anything to do and would have liked to have spent more time. Unfortunately, the weather turned on us and we decided to head home before we had acomplished all of the hiking and exploring we wanted to do, so we will return again soon.
