9th Annual RayKo Plastic Camera Show

I’m very pleased to announce two of my images from Burning Man have juried into the RayKo Photo Center’s 9th Annual International Juried Plastic Camera Show. Thanks Ann!

“Hat Trick”

I am frequently asked, “What is a plastic camera”? Simply put, it is a camera made of plastic or more specifically a lens made of plastic. In other words, low quality, crappy optics. For me using a plastic camera translates into freedom from the technological aspects of photography allowing me to concentrate on the graphics and design of an image.

These photographs were created using a Kodak “Fun Saver Panoramic” disposable camera that I reload with Kodak Tri-X black & white film. Like most artists I’m a control freak when it comes to my art. I process my own film and do all my own printing, both optical and digital. I make my own scans and print these images digitally on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper using an Epson 7890 printer with K3 ink set for an archival quality print that will last for generations.

The Opening Artists Reception is Wednesday, March 9th from 6-8pm.

The exhibition runs from March 9th through April 29th, 2016

The Opening is free and open to the public. Many of the artists will be at the artists’ reception. Please support the arts by attending arts events and buying art. Hope to see you there!

Annenberg Space for Photography

Last month, I was contacted by a photo curator at the Annenberg Space for Photography. She was seeking the work of photographers who have been creating exceptional photography that explores the world, its creatures, history and evolution and requested a submission of my plastic panoramic images for an upcoming slide show night. Once I returned home, it took me more than a day to edit, file prep and up-load the thirty images for the high resolution slide show. The theme for the slide show follows their current exhibit “Country: Portrait of an American Sound“. This special, one-night showcase at the Annenberg Space for Photography will feature work from 25 “Noted Photographers“. What a thrill to be on this list!

Date: Thursday, September 25th, 2014

Time: 6:30-8:30pm

Location: Annenberg Space for Photography

2000 Ave of the Stars #10

Los Angeles, CA. 90067

The following images are but a small sampling from the slide show. They were all created using a Kodak “Fun Saver Panoramic” disposable camera re-loaded with black & white film.

7th Annual Juried International Plastic Camera Show

For the fifth year in a row one of my plastic panorama images will be hanging on the walls at the RayKo Photo Center, for their  7th Annual Juried International Plastic Camera Show.

This is my image “Nothing”, shot in Nothing, Arizona last year.  My plastic panorama photographs are shot with modified Kodak “Fun Saver 35 Panoramic” disposable cameras reloaded over and over again with 35mm Kodak Tri-X film.

Lenscratch did a great write up on the show, check it out.

6th Annual Juried Plastic Camera Show

I am thrilled to be a part of the RayKo Photo Center’s Plastic Camera Show!

“Rodeo Queen” was selected by Ann Jastrab, juror for the 6th Annual Plastic Camera show. My B&W panoramic images are photographed using Kodak “Fun Saver Panoramic 35” disposable cameras, reloaded with Kodak Tri-X film over and over again. This photograph was shot a few years back at the Columbia County Fair and Rodeo near St. Helens, Oregon. I modify the camera by gently filing the interior of the frame, creating an irregular rebate edge. I also install a yellow gelatin filter between the lens and the film inside the camera. I process all of my own film.

I will be attending the Opening Reception. I hope to see you there!
